Biography

Hello! My name is Doan Bittner. I am one of many special education teachers at Brubaker. I received my undergraduate degree from William Penn University and my graduate degree from Webster University. I have taught special education at various schools and grade levels before I transferred to Brubaker in 2008. I am happy to be here, and I love being a member of the Brubaker family!

Denise Bogle

Biography

My name is Denise Bogle. I have taught Special Education in the Des Moines District for 25 years. I have taught at Granger, McKee, and now Brubaker Elementary.

I graduated from East High School, Grand View University with a three year degree in education, and Drake University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. I also graduated from Drake University with a Masters in Special Education.

I have worked predominately with 3 and 4 grade students for the last several years.

I am very happy to be a part of the Brubaker family

Sherry Breitman-Drummond

Biography

Hello, my name is Sherry Breitman-Drummond.   I am married with six beautiful children.  I enjoy travel, spicy food and concerts.

I received my teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa. My reading endorsement is from Grand View University.  I taught in Ankeny for two years before moving to Des Moines.

This is my second year at Brubaker Elementary.  This year I am the Title teacher for fifth grade.  I hope to ignite a passion for learning in the students that I teach.  I want students to feel good about their educational journey and succeed in the things that make them happy and successful in life.

Chelsea Clark

Hello, and welcome to room 209! My name is Chelsea Clark. I graduated from Wartburg College (Waverly, IA) in May 2012 with a BA in Elementary Education and an Endorsement in Reading. This is my third year in Des Moines Public, and my fourth year teaching overall.  This September I am heading back to school to pursue a masters degree in Educational Leadership. During my free time I like to spend time with family/friends, play volleyball, slow pitch softball, cycling (RAGBRAI), read, be at the lake, and do about anything outdoors! I love being at Brubaker and look forward to having another wonderful year!

Hello! My name is Kori Cooper and I am a special education teacher at Brubaker. I have been teaching special education in the Des Moines Public School District since 2001. Prior to moving to Des Moines, I taught for 10 years in Winnebago, Nebraska. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Morningside College.

Hello, my name is Joey Hendershott! I graduated from Northwestern College (IA) in 2015 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and endorsements in reading and physical education. This is my first year teaching and I am excited to be experiencing it within the Des Moines School District. In my free time, I enjoy watching football, exercising, and spending time with friends. I am thrilled to be here at Brubaker teaching fifth grade, and look forward to the growth that every student makes throughout the year. Go Bulldogs!

Hello, my name is Kelsey Hoeksema. I graduated from Iowa State University in 2012. Go Cyclones! This is my first year teaching for Des Moines Public Schools. Previously, I taught in Davenport, Iowa for two years with upper elementary students. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I am looking forward to celebrating in our student success at Brubaker Elementary this year.

Hi ! My name is Kristy Ira and I am a 5th grade teacher at Brubaker Elementary. I have been teaching 5th grade at Brubaker for 11 years. Before that, I taught 5th grade at McKee for 3 years, 2nd for 2 years and 1st for 2 years. I am starting my 19th year in the District! I can honestly say, "I love my job" It is a job that you see a difference everyday!

Hello, my name is Michael Pfannebecker. I earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Elementary Education from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. The 2014-2015 school year will be my 16th as a fifth grade teacher. I have started taking my Masters of Education class at Morningside University. I am extremely excited to be starting another year as a fifth grade teacher at Brubaker!
