LaVal Anderson graduated from Upper Iowa University, with a reading endorsement and taught third grade for 15 years. In 2013 she relocated from classroom teacher to Interventionist and has been able to work with students from Kindergarten to 3rd grade in that role. Her small groups allow her to focus on the skills of her reading endorsement and relish in her passion of math. As the parent of a special education student, a G/T student, and a down-right silly student, she understands the variety of joys and struggles a parent encounters. LaVal says, “I don’t just love teaching… I love children. Teaching is not my job…it is my calling.” During her spare time she enjoys being with her husband, their 5 children, and most of all their dozen grandchildren.

Hello everyone! My name is Lacey Bleich. I graduated from UNI with a BA degree in elementary education with a middle level endorsement. I also have my special education endorsement. This is my 8th year teaching in Des Moines Public Schools. I taught at East High School for 6 ½ years before transferring to Brubaker last year. Here at Brubaker I am one of the special education teachers that work swith the 5th grade team.
I’m so happy to be part of the Brubaker staff! My name is Patti Fiderlick. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Upper Iowa University. I have been teaching since 2002, specializing in Kindergarten and 1st Grade! Several years ago, I completed my Master of Education in Cooperative Teaching and Learning from Graceland University. Success for our youngest students comes from hands-on learning opportunities and real-world connections that are gently laced with kindness, compassion, and respect for their spirit. Welcome to my classroom!
I am currently teaching kindergarten here at Brubaker. Previously, I have taught fourth grade, provided in class support for multiple grade levels and literacy professional development for teachers within DMPS. I have been teaching since 2003, when I graduated from Grand View University with endorsements in Early Childhood, Reading, English and Language Arts. Also, I received my Master’s Degree from Drake University in 2006 in Educational Leadership. I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter and dog at our home in the country.
After graduating from East High School, I attended Grandview College (University), where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I have been employed with the Des Moines Public Schools for sixteen years. Currently, I am in my fifteenth year of teaching kindergarten…my favorite!!
I have taught in the Des Moines School District since 2001. I have taught first and second grade during that time along with kindergarten which is where I am now. I love the enthusiasm for learning that kindergarteners bring with them everyday! During my free time I enjoy swimming, gardening and cheering on the HAWKS!
